Relaxed yet Luxurious | Linen Bedding

Whether you are going for 40 winks or a full eight hours sleep, good comfortable bedding is an absolute necessity. Spending time and attention on getting your bed set up just right for you is so worth it and there is nothing more luxurious than getting in to a bed freshly made up with good quality linen sheets.
It used to be all about the cotton thread count, but these days there is a new contendor to hold the place of the king of bedding. The finest Egyptian cotton may have its merits but pure linen (with less woven threads per square inch) offers a host of benefits to rival even the most five star luxury bedding sets. Linen is naturally sustainable, breathable and hypoallergenic. And the bit I really love is that linen bedding keeps you cool and fresh in the summer months but warm and comfortable in the winter - so a perfect option for relaxed year round comfort and style.
Happily, this only gets better! A linen duvet set looks and feels best when you leave it to dry naturally and without ironing - which means those hours of pressing your cotton sheets are over.
We are always looking for sustainable fabrications now, so we were delighted to find the collections at La Draperie Francaise. The reasons linen is so sustainable are multiple. Firstly, it is a very durable fabric so this means its lifespan will be longer than other materials. Secondly, it is made from flax which requires less water than cotton and there is very little waste from flax during production. Lastly, linen typically requires less pesticides, herbicides and fungicides than cotton. At La Draperie Francaise, they explained to us that due to the antiallergic properties of flax, linen has a beneficial effect on dermatological conditions and helps anyone with irritated skin.
All the linen from La Draperie is made in Annency using traditional French methods and it is dyed to high temperatures to ensure there is no shrinkage. The quality is second to none and it is beautifully thick. We have a variety of bedding sizes from double, king to superking in both the fitted sheets and the duvet covers. The pillows come in standard sizes and also a large square pillow size so you can really add some height and drama when dressing the bed. The colours are all designed to work well together so you can mix and match your sets or go for a single tonal approach.
If you are able to come and see the collection in our Oakham store I can really recommend it.
